Fit Friday: 33 Days of Merciful Love.

 “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-39

Have you ever thought about how Jesus tells us that the greatest commandment is to LOVE God and  to love your neighbor as YOURSELF.  

We heard this reading not too long ago at Sunday Mass, which got me  thinking. 

 Jesus put these two commandment together,  first to Love God with all of our heart,soul, and mind. That is a whole person.  He didn’t say just your heart  or  soul or mind! But with our WHOLE Self! Jesus knows and is telling us that we are not just a spirit but we have a body, heart and mind!  We have it so we can LOVE God First!     Without skipping a beat, Jesus says to Love your neighbor as YOURSELF. 

But How can we love God and our neighbor if we just don’t love ourselves?   How can we give what we don’t have?   

I have come to the understanding that I have to love myself so that I can love God and neighbors.  I have to take care of myself so that I can give to others while loving God.  

I have to be merciful with myself so that I can LOVE merciful others.

IF I really take the meaning of PRO-LIFE , seriously,  I need to be pro-life in living my life to what God is calling me to do so!  In His greatest commandant , He tells me to LOVE GOD,  So to know Him is to Love him is to Serve Him with MY WHOLE SELF.   Not Just my soul but with my heart/mind which is the physical part of me!    

So I believe that to really LOVE God with my WHOLE ; Soul , Heart, and Mind.  I must take care of His greatest gift!  My Soul, Heart, and Mind. 

Once I do just that, I can love my neighbor as myself with a merciful LOVE.   I need to show this merciful love towards myself so that I can LOVE those neighbors of mine!  


I want you to join me for the next 33 Days starting on Sunday November 5th to December 8th on a

 #33DAYSOFMERCIFULLOVE,

a love that meets us in the  mirror so that it will over flow towards others as we LOVE HIM!

We will  prepared ourselves for

33 days of support & love as we transform ourselves to love ourselves so we can Love God and others.. His greatest commandment.

An  act of mercy towards ourselves so that WE can be filled with a Divine Merciful love .

We will focus on the 3 parts that JESUS  told us to use in loving  God.; SOUL, HEART, & MIND.

SOUL

We need to fill our soul with Christ. To know Him is to love Him is to serve Him.    We will meet  Christ , face to face in the Most Beautiful EUCHARIST. 

IF you can’t go to a Adoration Chapel once a week, there is NO excuses because there are a few online places!

We have  St. Martin of Tours ,  Tyburn Convent   ,  Aquinas College and at The Catholic Me, they have a few place to head to.

So pick a time and  a day that  you will have a date with Our Lord!  Let Him fill you with WHO He is so that you can know Him to love Him to serve Him.

 

HEART/MIND

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable.” – Romans 12:1-2

So let’s just do that, give our bodies to God by how we eat & move!

Pick three things ( I love the number 3 ) you will do for 33 days that will help you to take care of God’s gift to you, your WHOLE Wellness.

So for myself:

1. I am going to try a plant-base diet (Check out High Carb Hannah on Youtube.. she inspires me).  My gut is a mess (sorry for the  TMI) and I just need to  make it simple.   Have you ever seen the movie Forks over Knives? WOW… It really has me thinking since cancer and heart problems run big in my family.   I am just going to eat as Christ ate and bring a focus to enriched my body with what I eat.  Food is either going to do 2 things?   Make you health or not! 

2. I am going to walk and walk,  just like Mary did when she went to visit Elizabeth.   I love my fitbit watch (Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband, Black, Large (US Version) and I do a few of those StepBet(where you pay $40 and walk a certain goal daily for 6 weeks and if you meet your steps,  you win back your $40 plus more.. Last time, I got back extra $20.)

So accordly to some scholars, they said that Mary walk about 100 miles to Elizabeth.  So I am going to walk/run the 100 miles these 33 days and mediate on How Mary gave her YES to God and How I can give my YES to God in big and small ways on these 33 days of Merciful Love!

3. I am going to take Me and give Me a Me Time  , I will tend to my wants for at least 30 minutes before I tend to the herd of children and a corgi and a sweet husband.    I need a ME Time….   How can I give if I don’t have?    So no matter what for at least 30 minutes, I am going to just give me time  with whatever I feel the mood for! It can be just sitting and  reading a good book (this is outside of spiritual /prayer time),   writing and reading my affirmations,  having  a  mud mask and watch  a silly youtube or short show,  whatever I am in the mood, it is for ME and ME only.

Wired to Fail- No! 30 days of Wired to Try!

I have been reading, Robb Wolf latest book, Wired to Eat: Turn Off Cravings, Rewire Your Appetite for Weight Loss, and Determine the Foods That Work for You.  I really enjoy his style of writing that makes it easier to understand. There were some parts of the books that I had to pass and I really wanted to get to the plan of it.  If you know about Whole30 , you get an idea about Wired to Eat 30 days of eating plan.  He however adds that some people need some other type of carbs such as rice and after the 30 days, you learn to do a 7-Day Carb test. 

Robb Wolf gets into three areas of one’s life:  food , movement, and sleep.  I will try to deal with each one of these area. 

I have been doing well until about 3 weeks ago and I just feel sick most the time. I know that I need to get back on track so  starting May 1st, I will stick with a Paleo/Whole 30 eating plan again.  I hate not feeling well. I am big enough to know that what I put in my mouth will either make me healthy or not. That simple. 

Since I had baby girl, I have lost about 40 pounds (but many more to go). What I did that help the most was a low-carb (no ugly carbs) and I moved. I trained for Half Marathon and I did two games at  Step Bet (were you bet money to make sure you walk your step using a fit-bit or another types).   

Like I said earlier the last 3 weeks have been lazy and I can feel it . I haven’t gain anything back but my gut hurts all the time and I am tired again all the time.   

 

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,

who is in you, whom you have received from God?

 You are not your own;  you were bought at a price.  

Therefore honor God with your body,”

(1 Cor. 6:19-20)

I am wired to eat and move for I am made in His imagine and likeness.   I debated about having the post on the blog or even having any post about my personal life such as the fitness or homeschooling but you know I am leaving it be because it helps me. It helps me.  A main reason why I use blog space to write about my “fitness & wellness ” attempts is so that I know that I put it out there and for some reason, it motivates me. 

I will have to report back to you guys and that is sometimes keeps me going.. (Hello, I know you are out there?)

When I had my old blog of Catholic Fit Mom for Life(I stop that blog and decided to put all my eggs in one basket but I still have a facebook page ).  I blog about Fit Moms for Life program.  It’s a great program for women of all ages and types.  There I learn about SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timed. (Doran, G.T. ‘There’s a S.M.A.R.T. Way to Write Management’s Goals and Objectives)

Goals need to be Specific so that it is clear what you are working towards. If your goal is too generic, such as “lose weight” or “feel better,” there is no clear end point—you will not know when you’ve achieved your goal. Similarly, it needs to be Measurable. You need to be able to quantify or otherwise measure whether or not you are making progress towards your goal. Good goals are also Attainable and Realistic. You can and should push yourself with ambitious goals that force you to stretch, but you should also have smaller goals that are attainable in a reasonable time frame so that you can see the progress you are making along the way. Finally, good goals are Timed. Without a deadline, a goal is just something you would like to do someday. Deadlines help keep you focused and accountable —   Fit Moms for Life Program

So here are my SMART Goals in 3 areas of Wired to Eat: Diet, Movement and Sleep.

  1. I will eat for 30 days a paleo/whole foods diet. 
  2. I will train for 10 weeks for my triathlon event on July 15th. ( Can you believe it has been 2 years since I have done one?) using a sprint training program.
  3. I will attempt to get 7 hours of sleep at least 4 days a week (wish me luck on this one, with 13 months that nurses like a newborn. Ha!)
